What’s Coming Next on Dancing With the Stars? Viral Hits and Yacht Rock Take Over the Ballroom

Season 35 is officially underway — and after a chaotic two-night premiere, DWTS is wasting no time bringing out the theme nights.
The ballroom is back, the first eliminations have already happened and Dancing With the Stars Season 35 is officially in full swing.
After kicking off the season with a special two-night premiere, the competition returns Tuesday, Sept. 22, with Viral Hits Night, followed by Yacht Rock Night on Sept. 29.
And with only 14 couples remaining, the competition is about to get serious.
This Week: Viral Hits Night
TikTok is coming to the ballroom.
On Tuesday, the remaining celebrities and their professional partners will perform routines inspired by songs and moments that have taken over the internet.
ABC describes the episode as a celebration of some of the “biggest viral hits and unforgettable moments” to sweep the internet.
And the song choices are already giving us a pretty good idea of what kind of night we're in for.
Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov are taking on a tango to “All the Things She Said,” while Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart will perform a cha-cha to DNCE's “Cake by the Ocean.” Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson are slowing things down with a Viennese waltz to the Goo Goo Dolls' “Iris.”
Translation: this theme is going to be all over the place — in the best possible way.
After the premiere sent two celebrities home, 14 couples remain in the competition, meaning Viral Hits Night will also be the first time this season that the entire remaining cast competes together on one night.
The Competition Is Already Getting Interesting
It's only Week 2, but some contestants have already made an impression.
Harry Shum Jr., Ezra Frech and Maura Higgins emerged from premiere week with strong performances, while the unusually large Season 35 cast means there's still plenty of room for the leaderboard to completely change.
And there are already two celebrities who won't get that chance.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Conner Leavitt and professional partner Adele Zaikman were eliminated during the first night of the premiere. Sarah Jane Nader and Hailey Bills followed them out of the ballroom on night two.
Now, everyone competes together.
Which means the safety net of premiere week is officially gone.
Next Week: Yacht Rock Night
Once the ballroom survives TikTok, we're going straight to the yacht.
The Sept. 29 episode will officially be Yacht Rock Night, bringing the smooth, soft-rock sound of the late '70s and early '80s to DWTS.
Think breezy vocals, dramatic ballroom lighting and songs practically begging for a foxtrot.
The individual dances and song selections for Yacht Rock Night have not yet been announced, but the theme itself has been confirmed as part of the Season 35 schedule.
And honestly? It might be exactly what the season needs after the chaos of Viral Hits Night.
And The Themes Only Get Better
DWTS has also revealed much of what's coming later this season.
After Yacht Rock, the ballroom will celebrate Mariah Carey Night on Oct. 6. Later episodes will include Dedication Night, Horror Movie Night, Disney Night and Grammy Night before the competition heads into the semifinals and finale.
One Week 5 theme is still being kept secret.
So basically, we're two weeks into Season 35 and the producers are already giving us TikTok dances, yacht rock, Mariah Carey and a mystery theme.
The ballroom is officially booked and busy.
Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu.
